New Age Music

Photography and music!

I am soooooo excited to share some news with you all!

“The Best of Reviews New Age: The Guitar” is about to be released!!!

The release is the 4th sampler I’ve had the privilege to be apart of! “Winter Gifts” started it all… a release that was put forth by Damon Buxton’s Many Miles Label. Damon has become a great friend and HUGE supporter of this music of my heart and life… and it was a HUGE thrilled to be featured on that particular sampler.

Next was the award winning and best selling “The Gathering” which was made available through Will Ackerman’s new label West River Records. As many of you know… Will is a great musician, and producer. He’s worked with the best and of the best in the contemporary instrumental music field. This release featured not only my song “Forever,” but it also featured my photography! The featured photo was taken of a tree… just a few miles from my house. Again… another HUGE thrill!!!

Then came Winter Gifts II from Damon’s Many Miles music label! My song “A Place Called Home” from the CD of the same name was featured this time. I listen to to that release often… it’s one of my all time faves!!!

guitarNOW may I introduce “The Best of Reviews New Age: The Guitar.” The forthcoming sampler that is soon to be release from Alejandro Clavijo, Founder & Editor of Reviews New Age based in Spain. Last year he released a Piano sampler and it was also an award winning release… and a BEST selling release on iTunes in Europe! I am once again thrilled to be included and this release features my song “Renewal (Gentle Spring Rain)” from my CD release “Spring Reflections.” But… not only is my song featured… but my photography as well. Several landscape shots (what I am becoming known for) we’re used on the CD jacket and I cannot wait to get my copy!

“I’ve always been a huge fan of photography and have a modest collection which includes Alfred Steiglitz, O Winston Link, Christopher James and Shinzo Maeda among many others. Ken Verheecke’s landscape work is some of the finest I’ve seen in my life and I’m delighted he’s chosen to make his photography as well as his music available to the world.” ~ Will Ackerman

As I finish this post… I am extremely thankful for all that has taken place with the music of my heart and life… and of course that so many deem my photography worthy to featured on CD releases. I am blessed beyond measure!!!

Much love & thanks to Alejandro Clavijo and the many artists on this wonderful forthcoming release… it is an honor to be placed on a recording along the worlds best guitarists!!! THANK YOU!!!

Spring Reflections – NOW AVAILABLE!!!

sr600It has been a long, long… long time coming!

Spring Reflections is DONE!!!

What is funny… is, I cannot remember when I started this project. My good friend and fellow Guitarist Damon Buxton might remember? I say that because at the time I was working to complete a seasonal series… Summer Reflections, Autumn Reflections, Winter Reflections… all of which were submitted to Many Miles Music, Damon’s Seattle based instrumental label. Anyway… I completed Summer, Autumn and Winter Reflections… and then started working on Spring Reflections… then I went dry!

I think the reason I went dry is that I LOVED the first three songs so much, that I was terrified that I couldn’t live up to those songs? A year later… I wrote and recorded “The Opening Of Windows” and again got scared I couldn’t reach that level again. To be honest… I have no idea why I felt that way… I just did and the project went on hold!

In midst of all this, I started recorded with Will Ackerman… and talk about feeling alive again! I LOVED that whole experience… Will is a precious man who knows how to get the best out of an artist! I love the gift he has been in my life! Anyway… due to some unforeseen financial mishaps… I am not able to complete that effort and it remains one of my saddest efforts. Only because it seems soooooo far out of my reach to get this project done financially. I have obligations in regard to that effort… and I hoping and praying that one those will be met and I can proceed with this recording with Will!

So… another year passes and I have not released any projects in a while and I finally resolved myself that it might be a long time before I am able to complete the project with Will Ackerman. Letting go of a dream is painful… but, I still harbor a hope within me!

I gathered my courage… sat down, rolled up my sleeves and decided it is time to FINISH Spring Reflections.

I cleaned up my studio… made a space for working and went about the business of writing and recording… and it has been a blessing on so many levels. It feels really good to have this project done!

It with great excitement that I FINALLY offer you… my wonderful listeners, SPRING REFLECTIONS!!!

Presently this is available on my Bandcamp site for a $7.99 Download! Within the next couple of weeks… Spring Reflections will be available on iTunes, AmazonMP3, eMusic, Spotify, etc. Stay tuned for info in regard to that!

I would like to thank Damon Buxton, Will Ackerman, Masako, Alejandro Clavijo, Ashley Behlings, and countless others for the endless amounts of encouragement… I am a blessed man to have friends like you!

You Were Meant To Soar – Video Preview

Yesterday morning & today, we were seriously snowed in here in Western SD… so I’ve been sitting in my office/studio looking out my window watching the snow come down. It’s lovely in a lot of ways… and the rhythm of the snow falling has a way of causing my memory to drift to a simpler time.

I am not sure why I revert so often to my dad… or the memories of my dad… but I just do…

Anyway… I found myself drifting off into the memories of watching my dad build kites from newspaper and wood. I was about 5 years old at the time… and my dad would sit me on a chair in the kitchen as he would cut balsa wood, string and newspaper… eventually forming a kite that was meant to soar!

Back then we didn’t have electronics to occupy out time… it didn’t take much to entertain ourselves… do you remember such times too?

Well… once the kite was done, my dad and I would head out into the backyard and ready the kite for flight!

Once the kite was airborne I would sit next to my dad and watch the kite dance upon the wind!

It was during such times my dad would speak into my life and being and I’ll forget him saying these words… “Ken, you are meant to soar… you are made to dance upon the wind!’ He would continue… “Ken… whatever you want to do in life, you can do it! The only limitations you’ll ever experience are the limitations you place upon yourself!”

So yesterday… as I remembered… as I considered… I simply wrote another piece in memory of dad. *misty eyed*

It is called “You were meant to soar.”

I recorded late into the night… into the quiet hours…

The Gathering – now available in Australia

I dunno if you’ve ever had a dream come true in your life… I have…

Working with Will Ackerman has been an incredible experience… and of course, a dream come true! Although my project is presently on hold due to finances… it is still something I hold dear within my heart and life and I hope one day to have the proper funding to complete my project with Will! Gotta have faith…

gatheringAnyway… one wonderful blessing from the Will Ackerman connection is “The Gathering!”

The Gathering is a handpicked collection of songs from 22 artists recently produced by Grammy winning guitarist and founder of Windham Hill Records, Will Ackerman at his Imaginary Road Studios in Vermont. It features my photography (cover photo) and one of my songs “Forever.”

Well… I just received word that The Gathering is now being distributed by ABC Records in Australia!!!

I am profoundly humbled and blessed by this news!!! What a privilege and blessing!!!

William Ellwood’s “Natural Selections”

It was in the early 90′s… I had just moved back to South Dakota from a brief time of living in Oklahoma. My dad had recently passed away… and my mom needed some help and so I found found myself readjusting to life in Western SD again. I come from an Air Force family… we moved a lot. I was used to making life adjustments.

wecdIt was during this time I purchased an album by William Ellwood. I had been a fan of his guitar music since the late 80′s. The name of the album was called “Natural Selections.”

From the moment I placed the CD into my player… I loved it.

I still do today!!!

In many ways… this recording has inspired my approach to recording instrumental guitar. It’s foundation… the steel string guitar… the nylon string guitar… and a keyboard pad. If you listen to any of my recordings… this is what you hear as well.

Sadly there isn’t much information about William Ellwood on the internet… but I wanted to publicly say that “Natural Selections” is gorgeous recording and one worth the effort to find. I know for a fact it can be found on Spotify… so check it out.

Thank you Mr Ellwood… wherever you are!!! Your music has been a source of comfort and peace for many, many years… God bless you sir!
